Yes, Ken, “The Champ” is a colorful guy, and a courageous one as well. By the way, his son also sports the name “Champion.” I’ve been around quite a bit, but I’ve never met another father-and-son combination in which both were named Champion.
As far as “The Jet” (Renee Shepherd), is she sick or what? She’s 51? Really? How about 31, as based on her speed and appearance? I’m proud to know Renee.
For a “rags to riches” story, take a look at Roxanne Brockner on the extreme left of the photo. Almost no one knows who she is, and all of a sudden she’s winning nationals (I think for the first time). At Grand Rapids she won a dramatic 400 in 1:06.69 and prevailed in the 300 hurdles as well. Watch for her in the future.
