Kathy Martin’s W65 mile WR sets up incredible finish: 800 as well?

Kathy Martin is in real estate, with the slogan “miles ahead of the competition.” That was never so true as on Day 2 of ABQ nationals, where she set a W65 world record of 6:01.46 for the mile. On the Age-Graded Tables, her mark Saturday is worth 4:06 for 20-30 age group. Talk about insane. […]

M40 Kim Collins cuts 60 WR; W50 Lisa Mikkelsen cracks 400 AR

No shock here. In his first indoor season as an M40, Kim Collins lowered the world record at 60 meters. Just for fun, he did it twice Wednesday — with a heat of 6.58 and final of 6.56 at a German meet to destroy the listed WR of 6.78 by Holland’s Troy Douglas in 2003. […]

Best WAVA/WMA guy sprinters of all time? Medal tally reveals a tie

Who’s the most decorated masters sprinter of all time? As far as guys at outdoor world masters meets, the answer is a tie: Aussie Peter Crombie and Britain’s Stephen Peters. Both boast 47 medals at 100, 200, 400 or the relays. That’s part of a chart making the rounds, which I haven’t double-checked. But it […]

Sean Wade claims M50 world record in 5K, goes way under 15

Sean Wade ran a 5000 Friday at Rice University in Houston and found himself “a little shocked” by his time, he says. No wonder. At age 50, he lowered the world age-group record to 14:52.92, just nipping the listed WR of 14:53.2 by Britain’s David Martin Rees in 2003. The listed American record is 15:41.67 […]

Redefining our notions of running limits, M85 Ed Whitlock has crashed more barriers. Over the weekend, Ed added two world indoor records to his quiver — in the 1500 and 3000. Competing at Canadian masters nationals at the Toronto Track & Field Centre, Ed, who turned 85 a few weeks ago, shattered the 15 WR […]

W50 Alisa Harvey adds 800 indoor WR to her W35, W40 and W45

Alisa Harvey turned 50 in September, and it was only a matter of time that she added to her 800-meter legend. Saturday at the Potomac Valley Association Masters and Open Indoor Championships, she ran the 8 in an amazing 2:18.14 (results aren’t yet posted, but I learned the official time). That crushed the listed W50 […]
