Penn produced 4×4 records: Athena women AR, Houston men WR

Ladies first: “Athena B W50 finished fifth in time of 4:34.03 for a new American record at Penn Relays Friday night. Order was Debbie Hoffman, Lorraine Jasper, Julie Hayden, Cheryl Bellaire (but picture order is different). Splits [were] 65,66,71,70 with some seconds in there somewhere,” said masters mole 6674d. They beat one of the oldest masters records on the USATF books: 4:36.85 from Eugene worlds in 1989 by Marylin Fitzgerald, Barbara Meadows, Jeanne Hoagland and Irene Obera. (The listed W50 WR is 4:10.80 from 2009 Lahti worlds by a British team.) And the Houston Elite M60 team of Bill Collins, Horace Grant, George Haywood and Charlie Allie clocked 3:51.33 (averaging 57.83) to beat the listed WR of 3:53.87 by an American team including M60 legend Larry Colbert at 1999 Gateshead worlds. Also revealed is a 4×1 world record for W40 in 4×100 of 49.48 by Toccata Murphy, Donna Lawrence, LaTrica Dendy and Renee Henderson. Not only crushed a British mark of 51.50 but also went sub-50! Congrats to all! Sorry for missing these earlier.

And a big thanks to Pete Taylor for doing the leg work to get the record paper work done!

Thank you, Cheryl. The 49.48 by Toccata Murphy, Donna Lawrence, LaTrica Dendy, and Renee “The Jet” Henderson is an American W40 mark, not a world record as indicated in this post.

I didn’t have even 5 seconds of microphone time in this meet; William T. Lott did all of the announcing for the masters, and it was he who cried out “Renee ‘The Jet’ Henderson” when she crossed the finish line after her dazzling leg. I thought that Bill Lott did a very good job.

So I was told we still to provide the Photo finish along with this paperwork! Really !!

Pete can you assist in this matter. This is for W40 the 4×1 relay 49.48 ????

Please please please!! And thank you so much for assisting us this weekend. рџ™‚

No photo is needed. I was informed of this executive decision during the weekend. All four 2013 Penn Relays marks submitted by masters to the Records Chair will NOT need a photo. Donna, send in the records form with the signatures on it (which you should have received from one of your teammates), list your addresses and club name on it, and you should be good to go.

Oh, one more thing, list the date of birth of each of the four women on the form.

If you do all of that you will be good to go.

    Peter T.

PS All four forms have the signature of the chief of FAT at Penn Relays. It was decided that his signature is sufficient for records purposes.

Thank you so much Pete!! We could have never gotten the paperwork and signatures required without your help.

More awesome photos from Marleen Van den Neste, who writes:

Just in case you’re interested: I created an album of the Masters at Penn Relays. This is the link: http://www.marleenvandenneste.com/XCTF/Penn-Relays-Masters-42613/29163462_hhPPX9

    Hello Master’s Family,
Does anyone have the videos of events 371 (men’s 50+ 4×1)and 380 (men’s 50+ 4×4) at this year’s Penn Relays? If so, please upload them or somehow share them. Thanks

Who was the team that beat the Jamaicans Olympians????!!!!!

Has anyone else noticed the stunning lack of Masters women in the 100m at the Penn Relays? Masters men fielded heats for M40 through M75. And while I am on the subject why were there no Masters women’s races at the Mt. Sac Relays?

  12. Liz Palmer - May 1, 2013

    I agree with Kathy.

  13. Diane Pomeroy - May 2, 2013

I agree with the above women. There should be Masters 100 meter races at Penn for women. There are some exceptional word class female masters sprinters out there. In fact, a few of them just broke the AR in the 4×100.

  14. Cornell - May 10, 2013

Maybe the Drake Relays can take advantage of The Penn Relays omission of master women’s 100 meters?
