Penn Relays masters majordomo Felton shares 2016 entry info

Remind me in November to nominate Phil Felton for the USATF Masters David Pain Award for Distinguished Service. Phil’s longtime role as volunteer masters coordinator at the Penn Relays alone qualifies him. He’s circulating entry info now, so check out this PDF. Penn has been the scene of too many records to count — in relays and sprints. The 75-and-over race is a highlight at Franklin Field. Not just for friends, but for all fans. Best of luck, everyone.

The Penn Relays experience is like none other. Two big screen TVs, 40,000 enthusiastic fans, a venerable and cozy venue (Franklin Field), just a hop, step and jump from Amtrak: what’s there not to like?

Fifty years ago, I was never good enough as a collegian to compete, but, since many of my former competitors are busy pushing up daisies, now I am!

I encourage every qualified masters trackster to put making an appearance at the Penn Relays on their bucket list!

    Ken,
Phil Felton received the 2015 Jesse Owens Award for Meritorious Service from Mid-Atlantic USATF. The presentation read in part: “A 25-year member of Philadelphia Masters Track & Field Association, this year’s recipient of the Jesse Owens Award for Meritorious Service has been for 20 years the Masters Event Coordinator and Masters Chief Official for the Penn Relays. He has been responsible for all aspects of the Penn Relays masters experience, from the application process and the scheduling and seeding of dozens of events, to the logistics of each day’s competition. He has given hundreds of Mid-Atlantic USATF masters athletes the thrill of a lifetime competing at one of the most prestigious track meets in the world, in front of tens of thousands of spectators. In particular, each year the 75-and-older 100m event is one of the highlights of the Penn Relays, often shown on local and national television … ”
