S’il vous plaît, Lyon LOC: Give us better access to timely results

Results from Lyon are hard to find, but I spotted the secret. Go to the main page and look for results. Find the date (such as Mardi 4 Août / Tuesday, August 4 – 2015) and scroll down to see each stadium venue. In red, at the right, is “Complets.” Click on that. It opens a Web page, which you can save to your computer as a PDF (by various right-click or dropdown means). Here’s what I found for Day 1, August 4:

This means the server is slammed — too many people looking for results.

This means “Error connecting to the database” — the server is slammed — too many people looking for results. Or too little server capacity.

    Thanks Ken

The English version of the Athletes Manual seems to be unavailable.

Here’s note I got early Wednesday morning from Laurence Menu, Communication/Media Manager at Lyon:

We had many successive technical problems yesterday and the website did not absorb the number of connections. We are trying to find a solution for today. For the moment, we publish the results on Facebook, as soon as we receive them.

The excuse is being used that some events are still going on at some of the stadiums, with the implication being that WMA can’t/won’t post anything until the last event of the day has ended. So, all hope that results might be live-streamed through the day seems to have gone. The occasional “news” item on the Facebook page is no kind of a results service, whatever the communications manager for the Lyon championships might try to pretend.

This is a really bad failure by WMA and/or the LOC.

It’s now midnight in Lyon with the last event of the day having been scheduled to go off four hours ago. Still no second day results. REALLY bad!

Sigh! Track and Field continues to be the only sport in which neither the participants nor spectators (or apparently on-line interested fans) know what is going on (unless Pete Taylor is announcing) or the results.

It reminds me of a restaurant(s) I visited in Paris.

  8. Tom Phillips - August 5, 2015

Oh, the results of the last restaurant I visited in Paris were available soon enough!

Dadgummit! My suggested workaround isn’t working early Thursday morning. No results from Wednesday events anywhere! Not on Lyon2015.com or on Facebook — other than shout-outs to WR setters.

I’ve written to LOC media czar offering to host results. John Seto of mastersrankings.com is doing the same.

Facebook comments like this are showing up: “Any Organising Committee should be holding their head in shame.”

If anyone spots a reliable results page, please post or send me a note: TrackCEO@aol.com

In the Duchere stadium today, the 100m heats results were appearing quickly enough on paper. WMA might want to think about a simple stop gap, like photographing those sheets of paper and posting them on social media. The whole saga is a shambles and an embarrasment.

WMA website is posting Lyon results:
