Sonja Friend-Uhl’s 3000 AR, Peter Brady’s mile top Boston marks

Boston was veddy veddy good to masters over the weekend. On Friday, Sonja Friend-Uhl ran 3000 meters at Boston University in 9:53.04 to shatter the listed W45 American record of 10:02.55 (at 2003 Boston nationals) by Olympic champ Joan (Benoit) Samuelson. (See results here.) On Saturday, a masters mile kicked off the New Balance Grand Prix at the Reggie Lewis Center, and M45 Peter Brady outlegged a strong field in 4:31.02. (He also won the Hartshorne mile.) Kevin Burke, my subject of a week ago, finished in 4:48.4 — 10 seconds better than his recent masters PR. Good for him! The W45 world record for 3000 seems outtasight: 9:11.67 by France’s Nicole Leveque. But Sonja is still a stud.

Here’s how Sonja fared against the kdidies.

Sonja Friend-Uhl always does us proud, and here she is beating all but 9 of the college women. The last time I looked, her time equates to 5:18.1 per mile, which is pretty nice indoors.

Great job. 1500 and mile indoor American marks are in jeopardy. Seems easy pickings for her.

Peter, I believe Bob Lida broke the 200m world record yesterday for the M80. He ran 30.01 and the listed WR is 31.23 sec. I was there to witness his race and I believe he will run even faster soon as he had a terrible start. Please confirm if you can. See below the meet results:

Francois, our webmaster Ken Stone has now covered it in another posting. I must say it’s a bit sick for an 80-year-old man to run 30.01 in the 200 indoors, but Bob Lida is about the youngest 80-year-old in America. Watch him run 29.66 in Albuquerque.

I can still vividly see Sonja as a 7 an 8 year old jogging an running on her own down the Central Road in Whatcom County , WA. She has the fever !

    Kevin’s 14:19 stellar.
Couple month’s shy of 45. His 3k split must have been within 8-9 seconds of Barton’s indoor M45 3k record.

Wow, that Nicole Leveque is some story. Had no idea
