The whole story behind Ella Mae Colbert’s 100 WR at age 100

You’ve seen the video. Now read the backstory. On Friday, I spent nearly 20 minutes on the phone with Paul Humphries, the 42-year-old football coach nephew of Ella Mae Colbert, who broke Ida Keeling’s W100 WR in the Penn Relays 100. Paul hatched the plot to get “Miss Ella Mae” onto the track. He’s also looking into having her get an official mark — at a USATF-sanctioned meet later this summer. Two meets are possible: The Jim Law Invitational on June 17 in Charlotte and the USA Masters Games in late July in Greensboro. I posted my story to Times of San Diego for sake of a wider audience.
