Videos posted of Mulazim and Wilson world records at Berea

These are amazing historical documents! Derek Lau posted videos of the M45 400 world record and the M60 100-meter world record at Berea nationals. We’re in debt to him for this. First comes Khalid Mulazim’s solo run. He had nobody to push him, so this is especially amazing. Thad Wilson’s hurdle record is below the fold. Complete results after Day 3 also have been shipped to me by USATF’s Jeremy Langton. See them here. Have a great final day tomorrow, Sunday!

Here is Thad Wilson’s WR. You’ll note the voice of Peter Taylor in the background of both clips. It isn’t a masters nationals without him behind the announcer’s microphone.

I jokingly said to Khalid at the meet: “I’m making you a star.” Seriously, as I also told him: “You are staking your claim to masters T&F athlete of the year for 2011.”

A world record in the 400 at Berea, Ohio; a world record in the 4 x 400 at Penn Relays; an even faster world record in the 4 x 400 at Sacramento Worlds; world titles in the 200 and 400 at Sacramento; the list goes on and on.

In my own defense at Berea: We were getting an initial FAT and then a slightly slower FAT, with the second FAT the actual time. I had to wait for Khalid to tell me he had broken the world 400 mark by 0.02 sec. My apologies. Overall I had a pretty good meet at the microphone, however.

Did virtually nothing on the throws, however, as they were far away and I had no assistant whatsoever. Did nothing on the jumps except for high jump. Again, the other jumps were far away.

Important point is that I only became “the announcer” in June, and then as strictly a volunteer. Had no one to help me.

  5. Khalid and Jamie - August 12, 2011

Thanks to everyone who shared their kind words of congratulations! Pete Taylor thanks for considering me for Masters Athlete of The Year(2011).

Special thanks to my wife Jamie who keeps my high intensity training in check so that I don’t burnout or overtrain. I could have broken that record at Worlds, but Jamie said for me to just concentrate on winning the Gold and that I can aim for the record on my home turf.

Masters Athletes let’s continue to shine and show the world we are not slowing down.
