Thanks for publishing this, Ken. Louise combines the skills of a perceptive travel writer with a wonderful feel for the day-to-day demands of competing in a national T&F championship. I certainly enjoyed her long post, and I really did appreciate the detailed account of her visit to Baton Rouge.
Regardless of our events, we spend much of the time at nationals not doing the throws, jumps, or track events but rather in performing the more mundane tasks of our daily lives for 3-4 days in an unfamiliar environment. Your devotion to your twin tasks of writing a journal and taking photos is certainly appreciated, Louise.
(s) One of your many fans, Peter L. Taylor*
* Last competed at nationals in 1984.

Louise, when I met you first – you had the worst cold/flue and I could hardly stand on my feet, after tearing up my knee – 2 yrs ago, in Albuquerque.
I came home with your cold….took forever to get over it. THANKS!
Now, how could you forget to OPENLY mention that I showed you how to shot put – I mean, it was “instant coaching”! Can’t remember, if you placed – hi-hi!
Now seriously, you have become a great friend and were very concerned about my status after the car crash. You sent great pics and your report on the Nationals was great to read, thanks for that as well.
Now, until we meet again: ALL THE BEST.
As Peter said: I am also one of your fans!

Christel Donley! The first time I saw you, you were hobbling on crutches 2 years ago in Albuquerque! It was this past February, when you gave me shot tips and I apparently gave you a taste of my bronchitis (diagnosed upon return) to take home!
Wishing us both better years ahead — especially you — breathe easy until well. You are a delight (cheerful and bright) to know. And a fierce competitor.
