W80 stalwart Fei-Mei Chou battling stage 4 stomach cancer

Joe Biden, get a cancer cure. We’ve just learned of another victim. Our California sprinter-jumper friend Fei-Mei Chou, returning home from Taiwan, reports that she’s been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. “It has spread and there will not be surgery,” writes Christel Donley. “She will start chemo on Jan. 27. … It was the most devastating news for me and I am sure for all of us. … Fei-Mei has been a friend for so many years; we have not only run relays together, but enjoyed each other, including her husband. The two relays we ran together in Lyon were a highlight for all of us. Running a WR in each race adds to our greatest memories. We all shared an apartment in Brisbane and she was a witness to my great gift: ‘finding Jerry’ (though Jerry and I knew each other for years.)” Christel is asking for prayers and good wishes. She has them here. See Fei-Mei’s credits on mastershistory.org, especially at nationals.

Very sad news indeed. Fei-Mei has always been a self-effacing and genuinely humble athlete who loved to compete for the sheer joy it brought her and those around her. Our prayers and thoughts go out to her and her husband at this very challenging time.

So sad to hear this. Fei-Mei is a champion and I hope that her champion’s spirit will be strong through this difficult time. All the best wishes to Fei-Mei and her family.

I absolutely love Fei-Mei and have announced her many times. I will now look back with a totally different feeling on the night in Winston-Salem last year when we walked and talked together while coming back from a restaurant.

You’re a wonderful woman, Fei-Mei, and I’m wishing the best possible outcome for you.

I started chemo this past weekend myself but my cancer is not life threatening. I am sending out prayers for Fei Mei in her upcoming battle.

I received this news from Christel the other day, it was such a shock. It was great that she had family with her In Lyon to see her sprint and set world records in the. 4 X 100 and 4 X 400. And it was great fun to again be on a relay team with her. It is not the medals that count, it is the friendship. I have run with her on many relay teams and also chased her around the track in the 400 on occasion. She runs for the joy of it.
She will be in my thoughts over the next months as she undergoes treatment.
Feli-Mei – you are a champion for sure.
