WMA: World championships? What world championships?

Below is a screen shot of the WMA website on Day 1 of indoor worlds. It barely hints that the meet is under way in Finland. In what other sport would a world championship not be trumpeted by its governing body? No photos? No highlights of the day? Go figure. In any case, results are being posted live now at the Jyväskylä site.

WMA homepage as of April 3, 2012, lacks punch. Great opportunity blown.

Ummm. One has come to expect a lack of interest in Masters track and field from USATF, which would explain why (until after Ken contacted them last week)the USATF website Championship calendar still had the WMA-Brazil 2013 meet listed for July (rather than October after it was rescheduled).

However, as noted in Ken’s post, the WMA website isn’t any better. It completely fails to list any 2013 WMA championships on its calendar:

    http://www.world-masters-athletics.org/championships/championships-2012

There is a website link to WMA-Brazil 2013 on the right hand side of the webpage, but the type is so small and has no readable clues that this is the WMA-Brazil weblink as to be virtually worthless.

Another example of our failure to market our sport remains the t-shirts that are available at our national/international masters meets. Very few of them would tell the ordinary person at a distance of 20 feet what sport was being advertised.

See my NMN-Falsestart column from August 1999:

So improvements are needed: Up-to-date Championship information on the USATF/WMA websites and t-shirts that actually scream T&F from 20 feet.

Part of the problem with the USATF web site is that they currently have no web administrator. Hopefully, the web updates will be more timely after they complete the hiring process.

I would be happy to assist with website updates until they find a site admin.

The irony about this thread is that the USATF home page has been full of Masters information for the past 3 weeks.
