M50 thrower John Seto, the hero who launched and managed mastersrankings.com for Americans, plans to take his show on the global road. Today he announced (via comments here and Facebook postings) that he’s ready to take up the slack for the hobbled mastersathletics.net site by Austrian Martin Gasselsberger. John is getting help from several people. He’s already launched a proto-site, seeking support. Plans are being formulated to create a 2013 world list, since Martin wasn’t able to produce one. Martin is being consulted. Stay tuned!

Here’s the official word from John:

World and International Masters Athletics Rankings has a new home!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who has given me feedback, suggestions and insight.  I think it is important for the worldwide masters athletic community to understand the rankings system that has been in place in the USA so we can work together to create a world masters athletics rankings that carries onMartin Gasselsberger’s tradition of excellence and adds some of the nice features from the USA Masters Rankings system.

A demonstration site available by February 5th so athletes from all countries can see and navigate through the site.

Please provide feedback on the site so we can understand some of the logistic challenges, resources to help, etc. and complete the site by the end of March.

The US rankings site enables athletes to enter results themselves but the vast majority of the results come from meet results posted on the web which we insert into the database.

International Athletes will be able to start entering their own results by February 24th.  An Excel form which can be used to submit multi-athlete results will also be available by February 24th so anyone who wants to help can type the results and email to me for importing into the database.

All results will be instantaneously ranked both within your country and worldwide.  We will use these entries to understand the needs and make appropriate changes so visitors will frequently see improvements.

There have been many offers to contribute and other suggestions on how to secure other funding.  There is a link for Supporters which has the information for financial contributors.  This site will also provide acknowledgements for those who contribute in tiers.

We hope to get contributions from the WMA and other countries’ Athletics organizations.

    World and International Masters Athletics Rankings update (http://www.mastersathletics.co/)

    The website creation is progressing ahead of schedule and there are additions. The schedule will be posted on the site plus summary of activities and a means to submit comments. The demonstration site will be ready ahead of schedule. A means for athletes to submit results for the 2013 Outdoor, 2014 Indoor and 2014 Outdoor seasons will be running by February 11th. We are trying to compile a 2013 Outdoor ranking list as soon as possible so we will enable results submissions for all non-US citizens on the site while it is under development. We will continue to develop the site per the schedule.

    The site will be changing frequently as we get features and functions online. Today’s advancement is the list of US ranked outdoor events. We are experimenting with how to have events ranked for each country per your country’s preferences. I am leaning toward events for the World Rankings will be the events contested at WMA Championships. The comments submission form mentioned above will be the means to voice your opinion for consideration.

    Thanks to all who have made donations. The acknolegement page will be up by the end of the week. Please let me know if you do not want your name posted.

    Please keep checking into the site and let me know what you think. Thank you all.

    Well done John,
    We are blessed in the Uk with a comprehensive rankings system run by UKA called the Power Of 10 http://www.thepowerof10.info
    When you first go on to the site you will see UK rankings at senior level by event however, if you sign in and register you can see the uk rankings by age group. It is nearly always up to date and any mark made by a British athlete of any age at any meet is feed back to the power of 10, it’s a system that should in time be adopted by all national governing bodies across the world and in time linked back to a IAAF world rankings system? UKA almost totally blank masters athletics here in the UK however the power of 10 is the most positive thing they’ve done for our section of our sport. I’m sure it will help in the development of the World Masters list

    World and International Masters Athletics Rankings update (http://www.mastersathletics.co/)
    The demonstration site is running. This site is still being modified but you will see changes and improvements often. The only results in this system are from the 2013 WMA championship. Athletes will be able to start entering their results this week. It is much earlier than I estimated before partially because I would like your feedback about the results entry forms so I can improve them – this is your system so I want to make this as good as possible for you.

    Most of what is on the site is an interactive link. Please click around (and let me know if there are any broken links)! Here are some of my targets:
    • Navigation tools for going between Countries and World Rankings: February 7;
    • Athlete Entry Form (US Athletes should use the old form): February 7;
    • Feedback Form: February 11;
    • Whole meet result spreadsheet: February 13;
    • Fully functional site incorporating feedback: March 30;
    • Merge US and International systems: April 14;
    • 2013 World Rankings (you will see these grow dynamically): April 30;
    • 2014 Indoor World Rankings: May 15;
    Please note that these are my potentially aggressive targets and not definitive dates.

    There have been many offers to contribute and other suggestions on how to secure other funding. There is a link for Supporters (http://www.mastersathletics.co/support.php) which has the information for financial contributors. This site will also provide acknowledgements for those who contribute in tiers. We hope to get contributions from the WMA and other countries’ Athletics organizations.

    Thanks to everyone who has given me feedback, suggestions and insight already. Please contact me via email or facebook (https://www.facebook.com/USATFMastersRankings) with any comments, suggestions or support (both help and financial).
