What about the promise of a TUE after testing positive for PEDs?
Bob Weiner of the USATF Masters T&F Executive Committee reminds me that I posted a note after 2010 Sacramento outdoor masters nationals about the option to get a post-competition TUE — or therapeutic-use exemption. Elites don’t have this option. But masters do. Here’s what I wrote after attending a USADA briefing: “Post-event TUEs will be […]

Stephen Robbins: What about other unfairness in masters track?
Stephen Robbins — a Masters Hall of Famer, world record holder and world champ many times — sent me his thoughts on drug-testing in masters track. He discusses potential advantages some masters have over others. (It remind me of a post I once did on performance-detracting substances.) In any case, this is a grown-up take […]

Winston Thomas’ take on TUEs: Try the system first, then complain
Winston Thomas of Great Britain, a masters official who wears many hats, sent me a note under his own name, and not as a WMA or BVAF honcho. He writes: “As I do not spend my time trawling websites, I only get on your site every now and then, and having been reading the points […]

Now she’s been sanctioned another two years for a positive test at Berea nationals. This changes things. How can she account for this? The Washington Post brief is here. More […]

According to longtime track journalist Alan Abrahamson, in this story, Mark Siegel of Indy will shape up and shake up USATF’s marketing operations. Ed Whitlock has new goal: Return in 20 years for a sub-8 marathon
Ed Whitlock had a nice run Sunday morning in Toronto — a 3:15:54 marathon at age 80, his latest WR. But he was overshadowed by a guy in another age group. M100 Fauja Singh finished 26.2 miles in something over 8 hours. His final time wasn’t officially recorded. So get ready for the final indignity […]

A telling query: How do I reach guy in charge of Senior Games?
Janet Carrier yesterday posted a revealing comment on an earlier entry about the National Senior Olympics. Here’s what she said: “I officiated the Senior games, this past June, at Turner Stadium in Humble, Texas. I have been trying to contact Lou Botello and can not seem to make contact with him. I have not been […]

Millrose Games has Olympic aspirations — in terms of ticket prices
Many Olympians will perform at the 2012 Millrose Games — the first outside of Madison Square Garden. But does the Armory track (the new venue) have to replicate Olympic prices as well? Admission charges for the indoor mainstay have been posted, and they’re not pretty. Except for $20 “student” seats at one end, the tickets […]
