Magical new tape being touted for athletes with limbs falling off

A Wall Street Journal article on the new “kinesiology tape” is worth our attention. See story here. Might help some of us compete with less pain — or at least without handfuls of ibuprofen. “Some trainers swear by it,” says the article. “Clay Sniteman, physical therapist and trainer for Association of Tennis Professionals, says he uses KT Tape during breaks in matches. ‘The athlete feels better immediately,’ says Mr. Sniteman, who says he gets no compensation from Lumos. ‘When that happens multiple times, there is something to it.’ ” Anyone in masters track land using this? How did it work for you?

Hey Ken, you’ve been too healthy, clearly! This stuff has been in use for several years now. There were some very colorful legs, arms and shoulders in evidence in Riccione, Clermont Ferrand and Lahti – enough to show that the stuff is in wide use all around the world. Many of the Great Britain Masters medical team that support us Brits so well at big meets are trained to use the different versions of the tape, and use it well.

I’ve had K-tape applied several times after Physical Therapy and honestly do not know if it helped. It seems to help female volleyball players.
Warning- shave before letting them apply the tape!!

It absolutely works. I tore some rib facia recently while discus throwing. After two weeks on the tape I was back at full force. I can now cough and sneeze without buckling over in pain. I am back in the ring as well. I have also used in on my hip. It must be applied correctly for it to work. Im a believer.

I’ve used it, too. I sprained my foot/ankle quite badly last October and kept twisting it repeatedly over the course of the fall. I had it taped pretty much all fall and managed to make it through xc.

My ankle/foot felt supported with the tape, but it did not inhibit movement as regular tape would have. I also noted that when I did re-turn the ankle, the tape kept it from swelling up.

Thankfully, it has healed and I’m back on the trails, but I keep a roll of it around the house.

I have used the tape during my knee rehab, and it has been helpful.
