Thigpen, Andrade are no-shows at Modesto Relays

Despite their presence on the entry lists, M40 stars Aaron Thigpen and Henry Andrade didn’t compete at yesterday’s Modesto Relays. A sprint friend of Aaron’s informs me that Aaron is still rehabbing a hamstring injury that prevented him from finishing the 100 at the Penn Relays. I don’t know why Henry didn’t compete in his event — the open 110 hurdles, where the single-age world record for 44-year-olds is 15.1 (by Iceland’s Valjorn Thorlaksson in 1979), according to statman Pete Mundle. Hope Aaron and Henry come back soon. Meanwhile, I’ve heard that Bruce McBarnette set an M45 American record in the high jump at the Southeasterm Masters meet in Durham, North Carolina. I’m awaiting details. The listed record is 1.98 (6-6) by Californian Keith Nelson.
