Minton is ironman at the British masters nationals

Bob Minton, 56, had a lot on his plate at the British masters national championships last weekend — a two-day meet in Birmingham. Bob won the M55 200 in 25.98, the 400 in 56.17, the 800 in 2:14.35 and the 1500 in 4:33.08. I haven’t studied all results closely, but I noticed Dr. Stephen Peters still has game at age 53, winning the M50 200 in 23.35 and the 400 in 52.45 (running under his age).

Interestingly, several 200s were contested as two-heat finals. USATF has been mulling the same for the long hurdles, but never pulls the trigger on that more sane way of deciding a championship.
As usual, it’ll be nail-biting time for the M50 hurdlers at Charlotte nationals (including me), where the dozen entered long hurdlers will have to check to see whether prelims will be held, or if a handful will drop out to make the event go straight to finals (as is typical).

Just for sake of accuracy, it was Bob Minting, not “Minton”.
I don’t know what the comment about Steve Peters running under his age group means either. He ran M50, which is right. I was fourth in the M50 100 and 200 so I got a good look at his back, and I was in the right race too!

    Tom:
‘Running under his age’, as regarding Steve Peters’ time in the 400m, means he ran the race in fewer seconds than the number of years of his age. He’s 53 years old and ran a 52.45 second 400m. Which is indeed awesome (or as you Brits would say: ‘jolly good’.)
