Treacher defends his honor with letter to WMA brass
Typical of a 400-meter man, Anthony Treacher is hanging in there. Treacher, the British ex-pat handed a year’s suspension on ridiculous grounds, has taken his fight to the next level. He’s written to two dozen leaders of World Masters Athletics, saying: “The enclosed letter . . . is primarily addressed to WMA officers to explain the circumstances surrounding an allegation in Winston Thomas’ letter suspending me, amongst other things, for allegedly making a ‘public attack’ on your WMA colleague Friedel Schunk. As Winston Thomas’ suspension letter is ‘Copied to UK: Athletics, Swedish Masters, EVAA, WMA, IAAF,’ I have done likewise.” Can a lone M65 sprinter touch the conscience of world masters track? We’ll see.

What has happened to Anthony Treacher is a DISGRACE to the BVAF..NOT to Mr.Treacher.For the record Mr Treacher does not stand as “a lone M65 sprinter” THIS M54 stands right next to him. I support Anthony Treacher 100% and cordially invite him to join our club..Sprint Force America….im waiting to hear from you Anthony. Francis A Schiro
Thank you Mr. Schiro for a very nice gesture. Please send me the Sprint Force America application form. But I really would prefer people to forget me. Instead focus hard on the precedent established at Linz and its significance to coming events such as EVACI 2007 Helsinki:
1. After a national masters 4x 200m relay team has been finalised on the Final Call Time List and has been escorted onto the track by the Call Room officials, is it permissible to change back the composition of the team to include another athlete not on the Final Call Room list? In this case with a “new” replacement athlete who was originally listed on the Composition of the relay team but who failed to appear at the Call Room in time.
2. Is it permissible for a national team manager to enter the competition area with the “new” replacement athlete who is not on the Final Call Time List, for the purpose of ensuring that the replacement athlete runs the relay leg in place of an athlete on the Final Call Time List
BMAF Team Manager Maurice Doogan says Yes. I said NO and got insulted and punished for that. BMAF Chairman Winston Thomas (now Technical Director for the EVACI 2007 Helsinki meet where he will have the last word on such matters) says Yes. The WMA still says nothing to those exact questions. What do you other athletes and officials say? Yes or No? Stand up and be counted.
