I’m a little confused about who can compete in this meet. Reading through the eligibility section of the website for the State Games of America I find the following: “Any athlete who won a medal in their local 2009 or 2010 State Games, or the 2009 State Games of America, in one of the sports offered, is eligible to compete.” Also eligible are CA residents. Yet on the opening page of the event website I am told that this eventis “for athletes of all ages and skill levels.” It looks like a neat event, but seems that it is actually rather selective in its entry for non-Californians.

at http://www.stategames.org will give a nice overview.

The State Games of America are held every two years and are open to athletes of all ages who qualify through their individual state games competitions. It is very family directed.

Not all states have a ‘state’ level competition but you can go to another state and qualify. The Home page will link you to your ‘state’ games.

The last two National games – 2007 and 2009 – were held in Colorado. And if memory serves – the host state allows its state residents to participate as the National games serves as the state games for that particular state. A dual purpose if you will.

Yes it is held every two years (in the same years) as the National Senior Games. Yes you qualify – unless your state is hosting then I believe you have to be a resident for 30 days or such. The medals are very colorful – that attendance for adult track & field is far less that the NSG. The Adult T&F meet is done in one day.

The atmosphere for me was more relaxed and alot of fun.

do they mean state assosiation meets or the state games becouse most of the masters athletes that are of national and wga will not go to state games there is no comp at these meets in most states not for top masters runners anyway, please be more forward on who can enter it seems like a good meet to enter.

I ran at our State Games and by default since no one else competed, won the steeplechase for my age group.

Got my invite from the State Games of America to compete. Only problem is the steeplechase is not one of the events they have. San Diego would have been a nice place to compete at ðŸ™

Sounds like a nice meet; Cindy, thanks for explaining things. I doubt I will be there, but I am sure that others will enjoy it.

The year 2011 is shaping up, as everyone said it would be, as an exciting year:

Albuquerque (indoors) in March. They have finally started taking entries, and it will be interesting to see how the revised schedule (for example, 400 and racewalk moved to Friday) will influence things.

Senior Games in June (Houston). Should have an excellent turnout, but the heat will be a factor.

Worlds in July (Sacramento). I believe they have been taking entries for several months (Jerry Smartt is already in, I understand), but I haven’t checked them yet.

Nationals in Berea (July). Maybe they should add a music festival to beef up attendance at this university town in Ohio.

    Keith;

Yes; you must go to your state games. I use my state games as a meet to sharpen up; in spite of the lack of competition. I live in an area where there is not much masters competition. Our state games is better than running against little kids; in an all-comers meet.

  9. Cornell - November 23, 2010

It would be great if there were relays added to the meet. Any chance of that happening?

  10. Fidel - November 23, 2010

Question: If I did not compete at the State Games in the past 2 years (due to conflicts w/other meets), am I not eligible? Can I compete and place in 2011 and qualify for this meet? I couldn’t find this info on their website.

  11. Cindy Lea Arbelbide - November 24, 2010

Fidel – Use the contact info and they can forward you to the proper person. http://www.stategames.org/Contact_Us.html

Cornell – I inquired about adding a hammer throw to the national event – they contract out in advanced. So this year was not possible. (It took a long time for Hammer to be added to the NSG.) It also means being able to have that event in the State level games. But showing interest at least lets them know of an event you would feel would enhance the program.

The Adult T&F portion is a one day event and may have to do with what they offer. Good Luck!
