A sharp-eyed friend spotted a list of American records submitted for approval at this week’s USATF annual meeting in Virginia Beach. (See them here.) A few revelations: About a dozen are from pre-2010. Some of these are multi-events dating back to 1991, such as Rex Harvey’s M45 decathlon record. Originally, the score was 7780 points. Now it’s 7421. So I’m assuming that the new WMA Age Graded Tables forced the re-scoring of a bunch of combined-event records. But other newbies include Sprint Force America’s long-ignored relay records. Unsure why they are now kosher (and why they weren’t legit from the start). In any case, these records are now listed as “pending” on the USATF records site.

My mole also notes:

There is a subtle little difference between LDR records submitted by Andy Carr and the other records on the list. LDR has a legend to the notes on page 4, explaining the potential situations as to why a record would not be accepted. It shows there has been some serious research. The other categories merely list performances, no indication on paper of the research that has gone into these records or applications. I’m not even saying there has or has not been any research, just that the subtle absence of such notations gives no indication of the process involved. This goes to show the openness … could happen in such a simple step. And it can be done.

The regime of Committee of One Sandy Pashkin may end in Virginia Beach, however. Just reading the tea leaves, I sense an exasperation about her handling of the USATF Masters T&F Records Committee chairmanship.

In any case, please peruse this list and let us know if any good candidates for age-group records set in 2010 are missing.
