California murder-suicide victim did masters pole vault, decathlon
EastCountyMagazine.com is reporting that Michael Cour — whose Santee, California, home burned with him and his wife in it over the weekend (an apparent murder-suicide) — was a masters trackster. He shows up in results as recently as 2003, where he no-heighted in the vault at UC San Diego in the western regionals. He was 53 in 2003. Question for y’all: Anyone know Mike? Anyone have photos of him? Need this info for my day job. Thankee. Feel free to write me privately. Here’s my story on his case, which includes his claim to being a masters decathlete.

How very sad. Unfortunately there will be more of this “nothing to live for” in hard economic times for senior citizens.
Hi Ken:
I’ll pass along a political note (if that’s permitted) and a Masters Track & Field note in this message.
Political note:
I concur with Bubba that there will be more of these types of incidents from senior citizens in this part of the world, namely because corporations and banks and the uberwealthy get bailouts and financial relief, but the majority of citizens -especially vulnerable senior citizens- don’t. Does anybody care?
Masters Track & Field Note:
I kind of remember a Michael Curr participating in a Masters Decathalon meet sometime in the last decade or so.
I suggest, Ken, you contact Ed Oleta, a masters decathlete who has compete in meets consistently for the last 20 years and is also from the San Diego area. He would probably remember Michael Curr if indeed he competed as a Masters Decathlete. I can help you reach him if need be.
Cheers and Happy New Year and see you in Sacramento,
Grant Lamothe
