Chronicle needs contact info for locals competing at Sacto worlds
A friend of mine writes that he knows folks at the San Francisco Chronicle who may be interested in doing a feature on the upcoming world masters championships in Sacramento, “but they need a local angle. I know there are a whole slew of masters stars down there in Southern California, but do you know who from San Francisco or the Bay Area might be competing in Sacramento?” So don’t be shy. Post a comment below or send me email suggesting names of athletes who might merit inclusion in the article. Please provide contact information for the Bay Area athletes. Write me privately at TrackCEO@aol.com.

Liz Palmer, W50 hurdler and sprinter, who lives in Folsom, California, I believe. Liz is out of the University of Northern Colorado.
Rod Jett, M40 hurdler-sprinter who lives somewhere in the area, possibly in Sacramento itself. Rod is out of the University of California, Berkeley.
Sacramento Worlds is a great opportunity to publicize Masters. I’m sure a lot of local newspapers would be interested in stories on people planning to compete in Sacramento since it’s been a long time since Worlds has been in the US.
The best approach is to write your own press release (it’s okay to brag; reporters love it when you do their work for them plus you can make sure the facts are correct). And send a photo of you in action…otherwise the paper will probably publish a boring head shot.
Some good slants: if you were a champ in Lahti, you
are defending your title.
Or better yet, if you are an American or World Record Holder but didn’t compete in Lahti, you are going to try to add a World Championship to your laurels.
From reports in Ken’s blog, it sure seems like that there are a lot of World Recorder Holders in the US who stand a good chance of Gold in Sacramento.
my grandad lives in Pacific Grove…does that count? haha..
Aaron Thigpen lives in the Bay area. He has the credentials plus he owns an athletic training business which might give the story more local appeal. I don’t believe you could find a better representative for Masters Track. Here is his email address aaron@gamespeed.net
JP.
Rob Suelflohn, 50-54, lives in the bay area, former 70′ shot putter in the 1980’s and I believe Olympic trials participant as well. Winner of the shot put at the 2010 Outdoor Nationals in a very talented 50-54 age group…
