More than 1,900 Americans entered at worlds vs. 2,900 furriners

Masters media maven Bob Weiner shares the attached press release (updated July 2) for Sacramento worlds, which starts this coming Thursday. Among its salient points: “The USA team may have something of a group competition with the rest of the world, since the USA Team has 1915 athletes of the 4804 total from 93 countries; Canada is second with 215, and Great Britain third with 195.” Mary Trotto of the MT&F Awards Committee did the heavy lifting on compiling the defending world champs from Team USA.

Mary, shown at 2009 Oshkosh nationals, helped out with the press release.

Team USA will dominate …… don’t forget former hurdle world champs Thaddeus Wilson (Lahti) and Sarasota’s own James Broun (Kamloops). Our hurdle corps is very strong.

As a member of “Team Canada” I can say everyone from the Great White North is looking forward to a super competition, meeting up with old friends, and making lots of new ones. See you in Sacto!

I can’t find any information about entrance fees. Should I let guests know that they may be charged an entrance fee at the gate or is it free to be a spectator? – other than parking.

    Matt B.,

    From the WMA2011 FAQS:

“How can I purchase tickets for my friends and family members to watch my event?

The 2011 WMA Championships, except for the Athlete Party, is a non-ticketed event and is free to the public.”

    Parking is a differnt story.

    Enjoy!

WMA Sacramento scheduling (of heat lane assignments) have already missed an opportunity to do things right by assigning lanes without taking any consideration of seed times. In my case, I have one of the top seed times in my event and I have lane 8 in my prelim while others with NT have lanes 4 & 5. You can check out yours in the following doc. http://www.flashresults.com/2011_Meets/outdoor/07-06-wma/WMA_Men_Start.pdf

Of the total 1,900 athletes, how many are road runners and how many are track & field athletes?

This is driving me nuts: “Event 790 M60 Javelin Throw, Top 12 Advance by Mark, Monday 7/11/2011 – 10:50″
This is the schedule according to the Men’s Start List Open Events. But according to the Event Schedule and Event Schedule By Age, the Qualifying Round for the M 60 is scheduled for Saturday, July 9 (11:05 & 12:35). What is the correct date? Since the Event Schedule tells me a location SAC STATE and the Men’s Start List Open Events tells me nothing, will the event be at SAC STATE in case Monday is the correct date???
Is there something I’m missing? All three schedules are on the very same event front page. Now, let’s say I’m a javelin thrower but have no reasonable expectations to advance out of the qualifying rounds. I have the original schedule, scheduled my trip to throw on Saturday, fly back home on Sunday to be at work on Monday. Only to find out that I should not have relied on the first schedule on the web page, there is another schedule after all. Monday it is (might be, who knows, I’m no longer there) and I’m back in the office, having truly enjoyed my lost weekend in Sacto. And having to live with this disturbing dreams where I torture faceless schedulers with the sharp end of my jav. See ya all in Sacto.
