Anselm LeBourne finally makes it into SI’s Faces in the Crowd
This was long overdue. Our M50 middle-distance star Anselm LeBourne is featured in Sports Illustratedās Faces in the Crowd. I donāt have the magazine at hand, but hereās what the website said of AL: āLeBourne, a 52-year-old retired NYSE analyst, won gold in the 50ā54 age group in the 800 meters (2:01.30) and 1,500 meters (4:15.87) at the World Masters in Sacramento, for his third double win of the events in his career. LeBourne ran the fastest ever outdoor 800 meters for his age at the New Jersey Invitational in June (1:59.33). He also owns American age group records in the indoor 800 and 1,500.ā Of course, a lot of Sacramento ambien no prescription performers deserve this treatment. But it aināt hard to get. SI says: āTo submit a candidate for Faces in the Crowd, go to SI.com/faces.ā
We also should remember that two years ago, Anselm was the sparkplug behind an ad hoc group that met at Lahti worlds and lobbied at home for more professional treatment of U.S. masters at worlds. One tangible result of that effort was the crew of chiros and massage therapists at Kamloops and Sacramento worlds. They helped a lot.
Hereās a season roundup for Anselm.

I’m impressed by the fact he worked at the NYSE.
I’m impressed that he retired by age 52 in this culture of $$$ = wealth.
I’m impressed by how consistently good Anselm has been over the years! Keep making it tougher on the youngsters behind you.
Cheers
They could not have featured a nicer “face in the crowd”. Anselm is a great competitor on and pretty nice guy off the track!!
Congrats Anselm, you deserve the recognition.
congrats Anselm … and it was a pleasure meeting you in Sacto
I am lucky to know Anselm. A good friend and a ferocious competitor.

Great performances but I couldnt help but think when I seen the picture that this guy is built like a sprinter.
Mr. LeBourne,
Great Season!

ps how about some 800 meter workouts!
Props and respect to Anselm for his double in Sacto this summer at Worlds, having known Anselm since I entered masters track I’ve always found him to be a great guy and tough opponent
Congratulations Anselm. You are a wonderful athlete as well as a wonderful person and I know tat next year will be even better for you.
Much respect.
Wonderful honor, Anselm, and certainly well deserved. I have enjoyed announcing you over the years, and I know that you are extremely knowledgeable about HOW to race (some RUN well, but you can both run well and race well).
Another nice honor for you would be to get that 1500 American indoor record for M50. I know you ran a record time last year (4:13.56), and the article alludes to a 1500 indoor mark by LeBourne, but I sure would like to see you get it officially.
You ran the time late last year at the 168th St. Armory in the Holiday Classic (in the open section), and it would be the icing on the cake to see that record get accepted. As you know, Bill Krohn is still listed as the M50 American indoor record holder with 4:13.98.
Hope to see your 4:13.56 given its due at some point in the future.
Anselm, What a great honor to a great athlete and a great person. We have shared a lot of great times together and look forward to seeing you next season. You are a great blessing to the masters program and to all of us that know you as a friend.
