Kathryn Martin named USATF Athlete of the Week for Syracuse 5K
Kathryn Martin is so consistently dominant in her age group that we (meaning I) take her honors for granted. Thank goodness, the folks at Indy recognize her every once in a while. Her latest eye-opener is described here: “Martin has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting an age-group American record at the USA Masters 5 km Championships in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday. Martin (Northpoint, N.Y.) won the women’s 60-64 division in 19:04 to better the previously listed record by eight seconds. Martin handily won her age group with more than a minute to spare over second place. In the age-graded results, Martin scored 100.35 percent, the best of any competitor male or female.” Nice going, superstar! Keep showing the kiddies how to run!

Wow!!! I just checked Kathryn’s national rankings and for the period 2006 to present she has been ranked 1st in the country in every event from 800m to 10000m. There’s my inspiration for the day…! Wish I could sustain like Kathryn. 🙂
Kathy has done well from 400 meters to 50,000 meters (31.0685 miles). Pretty remarkable, to say the least. She has been a wonderful part of the US masters scene and will continue to be for many years to come (at least I hope she will).
Kathy is simply amazing! In September she also won the Fifth Avenue Mile 55-59 age group with a time of 5:30 and an age grading of 102.43%.
Congratulations and happy birthday, Kathy. Stay healthy and those records will keep coming.
Congratulations to Kathy on this honour! She is simply amazing with her consistency and wide range of events.
Not only is Kathryn at the top of national rankings, she is listed in the top 10 of 4 different events on Martin Gasselsberger’s All-Time World rankings.
Inspiration to the rest of us duffers. When I’m slogging out a couple of miles I’ll remember what Kathryn is doing 😉
