USATF posts splits for USA relays at Lahti world masters meet

Now this is service!  Marilyn Mitchell prepared several pages of Team USA results from Lahti worlds, and USATF posted relay splits in the 4×100 and 4×400. As mentioned before, every U.S. foursome at Lahti came away with hardware. No finish below third! (Total of 13 medals — seven gold, three silver and three bronze.) U.S. team manager Phil Greenwald says he took the splits from the stands, about 40 meters short of the finish line. He admits the 4x1s were hard to get. But they look pretty accurate (except for mine, which felt a second slower). Marilyn also took some shots of me anchoring the mighty USA M55 4×1 to bronze. See this gallery.

W40 bronze 4×4: Maryline Roux, Lorraine Jasper, Shemayne Williams and Lisa Valle

But when I had my medal engraved last week, they listed the leadoff leg as Jim Brown, instead of the “Jim Broun” I submitted in a printout. No biggie. Having the late King of Soul on our team is fine by me. (And the shop owner didn’t charge me. But I gave her a $10 tip for professional attitude.)

I had an appointment yesterday with my longtime dentist Ron Petrillo, and he was so jazzed by the medal, he draped it around his neck and paraded around to his office staff. He hopes to compete as an M60 wrestler soon.

    except the splits are incorrect

  2. Thad Wilson - September 30, 2009

Mike Godbout was left off USATF list for medal winners, He won the Gold in the M40 110 Hurdles with a time of 14.32 seconds.

  3. Thad Wilson - September 30, 2009

They also left out Jim Broun in the M55 100 Hurdles. Jim won a Bronze medal with a time of 16.17 seconds.

  4. Shemayne Williams - September 30, 2009

Appreciate the info, but I know my splits are off on the 4×100 for sure. No way I ran a 12.4. not in this lifetime. But glad I came home with some hardware!

  5. Ken Stone - September 30, 2009

I’m also told that Gary Snyder helped with getting splits. Full-service masters chair!

  6. Eric Merriweather - February 24, 2011

There is no way possible that Eric Merriweather David Ashford had the same split and that Darnell had a slower time than both of us. I dont think so I think the number are not distributed correctly. Also, the consistency of time would have been Eric, Darnell and Marcus. So I disagree with whoever posted these times. Not correct at all.

Thanks. Also watch the video again

  7. Darnell Gatling - July 14, 2011

I rarely read the blogs, but when splits are incorrect, then why post non-sense. I agree with Eric Merriweather. I walked down lead off runners that had faster splits than posted. Even the video has a better split for all of us posted on youtube. But I’m not the manager.
