Kay Glynn’s Christmas greeting: ‘Oh boy, I have a tailwind!’

It’s been a brutal weekend for our Eastern and Midwestern masters track friends (weather-wise, not Christmas shopping). So here’s something to warm you up. W55 multi-eventer Kay Glynn shares the third in a series of annual Happy Holiday shots of herself ignoring the Iowa winter. Replying to my queries, Kay writes: “I missed a few workouts in the past couple weeks while I shoveled snow. . . . This is my ‘conveyor belt over cement sidewalk’ runway with my hand-me-down pit that’s in my yard! My husband, Mike, is my photographer and when it comes to taking Christmas card photos, he always says, ‘Now let’s hurry up ’cause it’s cold!’ My other caption for my card would have been, “I only wanna do a few swing-throughs from 3 lefts!” There was a warm, south tailwind, but with temps in the 20s, nothing was warm!”

Kay Glynn won’t let a little Iowa snow interrupt preparations for nationals.

Kay also reports on her rehabbing shoulder:

Oshkosh was my first time vaulting since my surgery of November 2008. It didn’t bother in Oshkosh, but I was definitely “cautious.”

I vaulted 9-2 at an open Iowa State college meet at Ames, Iowa, on Dec. 11 and it felt really good, physically and mentally! I’m trying to come back with better technique, so it’s a slow process. I’ll be back to vaulting at college meets in mid-January, so that’s when I’ll practice indoors — at the meets!

And here are Kay’s holiday greeting shots from previous years:

ShaZAM, kid! As Richard Penneman said when he was better known as Little, “Good golly Miss Molly.”

Yes, Kay Glynn has made quite a mark in Christmas cards as well as in masters competition. The two posters above (Jerry Smartt- remember him representing the US vs Russia about a half-century ago — and Mary Harada [Masters Hall of Fame] have not done too badly in their own regard).
Look for excellent performances from all three athletes in 2010.
I continue to dig out from about 20 inches of snow in Virginia. Hope that Iowa and Massachusetts were not worse (I think Massachusetts got hit). Forget exactly where Jerry S. lives now.

If you look at those photos long enough you notice there is snow in the background! I suddenly have an interest in pole vaulting – thanks Kay.

Does USATF allow athletes to wear outfits like that? Could trigger angina in masters.

    @Tom Fahey
“Does USATF allow athletes to wear outfits like that?”
USATF? I don’t know (maybe CocaCola?)
    But:
Once upon a time the athletes of the CCCP and
today the Swiss-Athletes wear outfits like that (almost)
And,Tom! It is not the outfit… (almost)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. I’m in the middle of the woods in Missouri. Your winter storm missed us. Training twice a day for 2010 through 2035 at least. Thanks for the plug, Peter. Jerry

What an athlete! And at age 48, I never thought I’d find a woman nearly 10 years older so attractive. I guess the work she does (teachig jazz and other dances to younger girls keeps her fit! It sure shows!

    Hey Kay!
It was fun watching you compete and seeing your success in San Fran, and also seeing your Christmas shots. You’re quite a lady!
    Happy New Year!!
I hope 2010 is another amazing year =]
