USATF uniform chief explains procedures for WMA entrants

Jed Cornforth, director of merchandise and operations for USATF, has sent some information in response to comments at this blog entry. Jed writes: “We have received a few questions pertaining to the WMA uniforms (and subsequent ordering process), so I would like to clarify uniform purchase issues for the Kamloops competitors, and Ken has graciously granted this space to do so. Competition uniform tops and select supplemental uniform pieces (matching shorts, tights and warm-up clothing) are available through a special store set up for those entered in the championships. Once your WMA entry has been submitted to USATF, you can access the special store. (You will also need your membership number when you are ready to purchase.)”

Jed continues:

The items available in the special store are discounted 30% off the regular USATF Online Store and reflect a custom WMA price. By entering a valid USATF membership number during the checkout process, athletes receive an additional 10% off on the order.

Specific styles and sizes are available on a first-come, first-served basis while inventories last. The page for this special online “store” has been modified to reflect a straight 30% discount across-the-board, this is identified as the “WMA Price.”

In addition, your 10% membership discount will be applied on top of that during checkout. Please let us know if there are additional questions, and good luck in Kamloops!

I would like to get in touch with Mr Cornforth- can you help? I can understand that masters athletes are not issued uniforms nor given any fiscal support to attend Team USA meets, but when shopping the required “store” to purchase the mandatory uniforms, there are no singlets smaller than size L available. Are we just buying the leftovers from the “real” Team USA? If being treated as an equal is too much to ask, how about not being treated like the freshman squad, forced to wear “whatever is left” regardless how ridiculous it fits. I will not compete in equipment that does not fit or hinders my performance in any way. If USATF cannot support us with money, how about at least a little respect?
