Stop the presses! National Masters News has thrower on cover
This caught my eye on Facebook. National Masters News says: “The May issue of National Masters News is now posted on-line along with the latest calendars. I am very happy that for the first time we were able to put a thrower on the cover. It is really hard to get good throwing shots, especially indoors. This is Tim Mullen, the M60 shot put champion.” Progress being made.

“It is really hard to get good throwing shots, especially indoors”. Really? It’s IMPOSSIBLE to get really good throwing shots if you never send a photographer over to the throwing venue. However, props must go to the editor who was able to get most of Tim onto the cover. At about 6’6″ Tim may have been the most challenging subject to try and fit into the confines of the cover page. Nice publicity for the AZDT Throwers Club out of Arizona headed up by Dave Bickel. Their squad had a great meet with a host of great performances!
And to put a final point to my thought about throwers not getting the respect due them from a publicity point of view, his name is Tim MULLER, not Tim Mullen. And it’s not as if Tim is a relative unknown in the throwing community. Not only is Tim a many-time Masters National Champion, he is also a double Masters World Champion (2010 WMA Indoors in Kamloops, SP and WT). I guess it is really hard to get thrower’s names straight, especially indoors.
Well said, Bob. This is a nice shot of Tim. Hopefully, there will be many more!
Great picture of Tim! He deserves the publicity for many years of great performances.
Tim is a great athlete and a great person. Our mentor at the Arizona Desert Throwers Club, David Bickel, has done wonders with the aged and aging throwers of Arizona. It was very good to see these two titans of the sport receive such long overdue and well-deserved attention. Bravo, Sirs Tim and Dave!
