Christa Bortignon makes it 10 — age-group WRs in W75 season

Christa Bortignon reports from the WMA regional meet now under way in St. John, New Brunswick: “I finally got my number 10 world record — in the outdoor pentathlon with 4,743 points in the NCCWMA meet … Current W75 record is 4531 by Leila Kaas. Results are posted here. Her series of marks: 19.71 in 80-meter hurdles, 1.09 (3-6.75) in HJ, 3.48 (11-5) in LJ, 7.58 (24-10 1/2) in shot and 3:39.57 in 800. Excellent technique, Christa. Love to see that kind of lift. What, you say you’re in W75? Come on, now. Enjoyed seeing you and your husband in Lisle; thanks for the free breakfast.

Nice story about meet in local paper:

    One M75 sprinter is quoted:
“At the Masters, you move into new age groups every five years. Next year I move into the 80 category, so I’ll be the young lad. It may sound strange being the young lad at 80, but that’s the way it works.”

Absolutely she should be nominated as IAAF best female masters athlete! She’s tops in my book.

What an incredible photo of Christa’s leap! There are Olympians of recent who would envy her form and otherworldly flexibility. She is truly a champion among all ages and should receive the highest awards from the T&F community.

I got to see her live in St John running the 200, I believe. Amazing. Not, “oh, good for her!”, but amazing. Had to double-check my program because I had my doubts telling a fellow competitor that she was 75.
