Earl Fee’s dietary secrets: enzymes, vitamins, fish oil . . .

In yet another wide-ranging superduper interview, blogger Pete Magill gets masters track legend Earl Fee, 80, to detail his dietary supplements. Earl, who has set 50 world age-group records, says: “I take calcium and magnesium in one mixture. I take co-enzyme 10. I take magnesium straight. Vitamin C and E. And grape seed extract, which is a very powerful antioxidant. Zinc. I take arginine, an amino acid. And glutamine — that’s a really good one, I recommend that one.â€

Earl continued:

I used to take creatine, but that caused my muscles to cramp up. I used to do a lot of sprinting, and about three times my muscles cramped up right after the start. You need a lot of water with creatine, and I wasn’t drinking enough. I also take fish oil. Oh, and if you take Vitamin C, you should take Ester-C. That’s better.

A lot of people like that grape seed extract. It’s 50 times more powerful as an antioxidant that Vitamin C. Pine bark is very similar to grape seed extract. I take red wine too. That’s another supplement. I have to have that every day! People like to train with me because I advocate drinking red wine. I think it might have helped me — you never know!

I believe in drinking red wine too. In Canada there was a legendary Norwegian born xc skier and country man of mine named Hermann Smith “Jackrabbit” Johansen who lived to age 111. They say he xc skied every day at least to age 101 He advocated being active, getting plenty of exercise. In the same sentence he also said “don’t drink too much, but then again don’t drink too little!!!”

I’ve been using Amino acids for over 25 yrs, and quite frankly believe all humans should be consuming them. They are the building blocks of protein, and can be found in every single cell in the body.
    I also consume magnesium, vitamin E & C together, and Selenium.Great antioxidents.
Ever since I spoke to Earl in Australia in 2001, I’ve been consuming Flax seed. I like the granules to spread over my salads.
Remember people, “you are what you eat !
