Loaner poles listed for Porto Alegre worlds; FAQ notes other issues

Some of these brands will be available in Brazil.

Vaulters love their poles, but they hate the ordeal of shipping them to foreign meets. So WMA world meets make available a selection of sticks — from 11-9 to 16-4 in length. Today’s WMA site lists which poles are available for the world meet. Also revealed are the surfaces of the tracks and which spikes to wear. Mondo and Rekortan are on the menu — both being familiar to Americans. They’re also common to Olympic Games. Good to know, too, is that “Transport to the tracks will be available from outside recognized hotels. … Transport should be available at least two hours before the first event each day and be available for athletes leaving the track after the last events conclude.â€

Now if they would only give us a schedule so we know what time we jump.

Doug, why do you want to be so specific? it will be sometime while we are there…. smile

Jerry just found out that there will be a welcome desk at the Airport in P.A. “level 3” from 10/13 on –
    8 am to 8 pm

Did anybody get and read the entry booklet. We never saw it.
If anybody knows more, please post it.

Thanks for that info Christel and great seeing you and Jerry in Fort Collins. Our team manager, Phil Greenwald was finally able to get us info as to where to ship our poles, but no one knows the timetable nor what stadium we are in. I guess they figure that we will be there anyway so what difference does it make.

The following is the WMA reply of September 29, barely two weeks before the start of World Masters track and field meet that happens once every two years, to my inquiry about schedule and stadiums:

    FR: info@wma2013.com
“We apologise for not helping in your request, due to the extension of the registration deadline, the schedule is undergoing adjustments.”

    regards

    > It is now less than three weeks to the start of the WMA-Porto Alegre T&F Championships. There have been no updates to the general schedule posted on the WMA website.

    > When do you anticipate that WMA will post an actual competition schedule?

    > For example: There are 20 entrees in the M60 Long Jump with a “qualifying round on Oct. 17 and finals on the 18. It is not optimum to long jump on back-to-back days. Will WMA actually make us “qualify” on Oct. 17 or will they run two flights on the 18th?

    > For example: On October 18, the schedule shows finals of the M60 LJ and Q/S of the 100m. Are the Long Jump and 100m even in the same stadium? Will the LJ finals and 100m heats take place at the same

    > For example: On October 19, the schedule shows the M60 100m finals and 300m Hurdle semis. Are these events in the same stadium? Which event will go first and how much time between events?

    > Part of preparing for a world championship meet is knowing when and where events will be held. Entrees have long since closed so what accounts for the lack of scheduled events so close to the date of
    > meet?
