Everad Samuels takes down Bill Collins’ M50 AR at 200

In an Olympic year, it’s common for unknowns to emerge from the woodwork. But M50 sprint phenoms? That’s apparently the case with Everad Samuels, who appears in mastersrankings.com with a 22.66 in the 200-meter dash. Whoa there! That beats the listed M50 American record of 22.79 by Bill Collins in April 2002! But it’s true, according to results at this Icahn Stadium open meet May 10 in New York City. Everad ran into a headwind of 0.9 mps, in fact. (And also clocked a 11.61 100 into a 2.0 mps wind.) Who is Everad?

In March, he won the M45 national indoor title at Boston by more than a second:

In fact, he probably works at the meet site, since a Roxbury Community College catalog in 2004 listed an Everad Samuel as coordinator of operations at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center — site of umpteen masters national indoor championships.

Everad Samuels is former Jamaican Olympian who works at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, home of most of the National Masters Indoor Championship meets. He is joy to watch in the sprints, and is often seen beating (and surprising) collegiate competitors at the Boston University All-Comers meets in December. Much congratulations to Everad!

He is legit!! He is a well-known Master’s Sprinter in the New England area and beyond! He is a “freak of nature” in a sprinting sort of way! Congratulations Everad!

Everad Samuels is the real deal. I announced him at Boston this winter (March 2008,) and he came up huge. He is completely legit, and I hope that this record will be accepted (as all legitimate records should be).

Unknown? Certainly not around New England Masters Track & Field circles! And I would add certainly not among the many Open and Collegiate sprinters that routinely get their “lunch”
handed to them in meets in this part of the country by Mr Samuels. You do him a disservice by claiming him to be an unknown.

Everad Samuels is not an unknown ,unless you haven’t been a long time track person.
Eveard is one of the best athletes to come out of Jamaica. It is a beauty to watch him run. Its amazing to watch him turn the college kids over in the races. And I must add he has great coaching skills.
So you need to watch out ,because faster times are coming.
