British team claims 4×100 relay world record for M35
An M35 British team of Darren Scott, Mark Dunwell, Jim Tipper and Anthony Leigh yesterday clocked 42.51 in the 4×1 at an international triangular meet in Ashford, Kent, England, reports our friend Pete Mulholland. Pete writes: “Looks like Great Britain has snatched the M35 4x100m WR from your guys who set the listed mark of 42.62 at the WMA Champs at San Sebastian in 2005. The event was an International, GBR v France v Belgium.” Full results are here. The record remains “soft,” however, since an American M40 team holds the listed WR of 42.20.
Here are the listed M35 and M40 4×100 records:
M35 42.62 Peete,Thomas,Jones,Drummond USA 03.09.05 San Sebastian
M40 42.20 Strong; Stephen; Berry; Gault USA 02.05.04 Irvine
Here are yesterday’s results:
4x100m Relay
1 GBR 42.51 1 Darren Scott 2 Mark Dunwell
3 Jim Tipper 4 Anthony Leigh
2 GBA 43.94 1 Derek Morgan 2 Rohan Samuel

4 BEL 46.75 1 Dirk Bonte 2 Johan Pieroni

The Brits’ record may not last the summer, though, because Matt Clark in Northern California is hoping to put together an M35 team to crash through the 43-second barrier. Stay tuned.

I will agree that the record is soft because prior to my hamstring pull in May, we (m45)were leading a college team that ran 42.79 and Willie Gault hadn’t even touched the baton yet.

Thanks, Tom!
It will be brought down to 41 something this summer at the World Region Meet in Claremont, FL. There are three 10.6 sprinters in the m35 age group that are going to this meet and have decided to stay to run the 4×100. I predict a 41.5 in a couple of months.
If usatf would allow an ad hoc relay to break a WR I bet I could throw together an M40 that can beat that! 42.20 is the record..much faster than the current M35 record…come on Don, put one together and beat that M35..
