Spokane could be the mighty mouse of masters nationals

It won’t be Eugene 2003 (with a turnout of 1,400), but the 2008 edition of the USATF Masters Outdoor National Track & Field Championships next week will boast plenty of horses. Here’s a sneak preview of the press release (updated Aug. 2) touting our 40th anniversary nationals. Spokane is hosting our meet just as the Olympics begin (in China, right?), so don’t look for much national coverage. Don’t look for a webcast either, as we had a year ago in Orono, Maine. On my MAD blog, I noted the poor attendance projected for Spokane. But let’s not dwell on that. Also, let’s wish our northern neighbors well. The Canadian masters nationals begin today and are previewed here.

My listing of Riccione world champs in the press release left off two significant names:
    M50 Jim Barrineau high jump
    M50 Ralph Fruguglietti discus
    My apologies!
    (Have I missed anyone else?)

I am looking forward to seeing Dan John and Ralph Fruguglietti compete in the M50 discus. Tim Muller will throw far in the M55 discus.

My wife, Renee won the F40-44 60m and 200m in France but she’s not listed in your release.

My apologies to Renee! I’ve sent a corrected list of world champions.
I’ve also added Larry Barnum to the Riccione world champs list. Apologies to him as well.
Also: a correction to my earlier posted correction: Jim Barrineau won at Riccione, but he’s not entered at Spokane. My brain pulled a hammie at 4 a.m.

My friend Joy Upshaw-Margerum, the W45 world champ in the long jump at Riccione, is a late entry at Spokane and also is being added the press release.
Any other late entries of note?
