As George Mathews notes in a recent comment, USATF records czar Sandy Pashkin of Oregon is a candidate for vice president-stadia of World Masters Athletics. Her only rival at this point is Serge Beckers of Belgium. The election is at Lahti worlds this summer. Serge, in his late 40s, is a world-class short hurdler who annoyed Dexter McCloud at Clermont-Ferrand worlds last year. Serge, also a multi-eventer, has been on WMA’s Stadia Committee — which oversees conduct of WMA indoor and outdoor world meets — for about two years. He’s also the “stadia manager” on the Eurovets Technical Board of Managers. Sandy, a longtime member of the USATF Masters track Games Committee, would succeed Rex Harvey as stadia veep. Rex is running for WMA president at Lahti. A former USA team manager at worlds, Sandy has a reputation for being an organizational genius at big meets. But her baggage includes multiple failures on the records front.
She’s also the WMA’s records chief — and president of Oregon Track Club Masters. And even though she no longer works for Tom Jordan’s Northwest Events Management outfit in Eugene (He closed shop), Sandy has almost too much on her plate.

It’ll be an uphill fight for Sandy, since Serge will be favored by the biggest voting bloc at Lahti — his fellow Europeans. Sandy is in her late 60s — about 20 years older than her opponent, and WMA brass have been calling for younger blood in the candidate pool.
I’ll be interviewing all candidates eventually.
According to a press release on a 2000 USATF award she got when she lived in New York:

Pashkin has also served as a manager for a national junior team, and a USA Masters team at the WAVA Championships. She is the current Chair of the Health and Physical Education Department and Athletic Director for Hunter College Campus Schools in New York City.

How many times has Sandy come to the rescue of masters track meets both in the US and abroad? Now that is a record worth keeping.
Ken – your history of strong dislike of Sandy is well known to those of us who have been reading your blog for years. You are NOT an unbiased reporter. It would be a great idea if you retracted your nasty statement about Sandy – your conspiracy theory about Sandy and Tom Jordan milking millions while working at Northwest Event Management disqualifies you from passing judgment. It is right up there with the theory that Lee Harvey Oswald was a soviet agent sent to murder JFK.
I agree with George in his comment under the entry about Landover. Such negative comments will only help to have her defeated. Ah – but that is exactly your desire isn’t it!
Silly me – I thought you were reporting news -not trying to manipulate its outcome.
Good luck to Sandy and Rex.
