Rita Hanscom claims silver as oldest in W55 pentathlon field
Thanks to all-world athlete Rita Hanscom and all-star photograher Robert Jerome, I double-dip today for Budapest news. Rob sent me a great shot of Rita over the pentathlon high jump bar on her way to silver in W55. She’s only a couple months shy of 60, too. See my post at Times of San Diego. In Olga news, W95 Canadian superstar Kotelko won the high jump at worlds at 0.78 meters (2-6 3/4). That gives her the age-group WR and makes her the oldest female high leaper in history. (She’s also the record-holder in W85 and W90.) In the W45 pole vault, Great Britain’s Irie Hill upped her own listed indoor WR by 10 centimeters. Results show her as clearing a massive 3.55 meters (11-7 3/4). Rita took second in the vault at 2.40 (7-10 1/2). Any other great marks I’m missing?

Rachel Guest and Damon Blakemore both set American records on the way to silver medal finishes in the W35 and M50 pentathlons. The WR was broken again in the M50 event by Jean-Luc Duez of France

New indoor wr in m75 pole vault – 293cm , by Zoltan Kurunczi,
at Hungarian indoor Masters athletics Championship, Budapest, SYMA hall. Listed M75 WR is 2.92 by Finland’s Ilpo Sopanen in 2010.
Olga Kotelko established a first-ever W95 world indoor record in the 60 with her 16.53:

American M40 high jumper Ken Hoffman took silver in a deep field with a jump of 1.96 (6’5 1/4″). Not sure we’ll get to see much of him here Stateside – his only posted masters marks thus far (other than Budapest) seem to be based in Norway. Expat maybe? Nonetheless, helluva performance! Congrats Ken if you’re reading this and hope to meet you someday!

Thanks Matt! It was a great field in the hj yesterday and I am very pleased! Yes, I’m originally from Wisconsin, met my Norwegian wife at St. Olaf College and have been in Norway since 1996.
Today in the high jump 1.80… And an interesting clash of the techniques, record holder and straddler Thomas Zacharias lost from a flopper, Dusan Prezelj (his son jumped 2.32 a few years ago), both over 1.61.
O, I accidentally hit the send button. That 1.80 was in W40, the men were in M65.
