Oshkosh-goers Sisley, Altendorf tune up with world records
W70 Becky Sisley and M60 John Altendorf broke their own age-group world records in the vault last weekend in Gresham, Oregon, Becca’s Peter’s message board reports. The local paper says: Eugene’s Becky Sisley set two world records in the 70-74 age group at the Portland Masters Classic on Sunday at Mount Hood Community College. Sisley set records in the pole vault (7-8 3/4) and javelin (92-8) and also won the 80-meter hurdles and the 200-meter hurdles.” Another post adds: “John cleared 4.02 (13-2 1/4) on his second attempt . . .  to break his own world and American record.” Sisley went 2.20 (7-2 1/2) in May. John is the listed WMA record holder with 4.00 (13-1 1/2) in 2007. Both are entered at Oshkosh nationals. In other vault news, Max Babits, nephew of M45 vault star Paul Babits, is on Team USA for the IAAF youth worlds this month in Bressanone, Italy.

I found out from John Altendorf via email that he will be unable to make it to Oshkosh due to some things that need his attention near home. All work no play for John. Bubba
Richard Holmes, 2003 and 2008 national short hurdles champion, sent me this note:
As per you article on your blog about athletes pulling out of Oshkosh, I regret to say that I will not be going to Oshkosh, to defend my men’s 40-44 110HH title. This was to be a fantastic race — competing against a stacked field of past & upcoming champions — while also competing in the shuttle hurdle relay, where I know a record WAS going to be set.
This entire season I’ve been plagued with hamstring issues and it continues to haunt me. While competing at the Western Regionals, although I didn’t pull, I felt a slight twinge in my left hammy. I believe need an additional 10-15 days to fully recover & my hope is to compete @ various all-comer meets within the next 3-4 weeks.
I just wanted to publicly apologize to the entire hurdle field (we’re a close group) and wish them a fast, blazing race. Stay healthy guys!
Speedy recovery Richard. I have also been plagued with a hamstring injury. I guess this is the year of the hamstring injuries. LOL!!!! I will attempt to get a run at Nationals, but my maine focus now is WORLDS!
I wish you a speedy recovery!!!!!
