Amy Acuff plans last-chance leap at IAAF Beijing qualifying standard
Seth Brower writes from Texas: “We have learned that 5-time Olympian Amy Acuff will be jumping this Saturday night at the Lions meet at St Michaels, Austin. She is in great form and is trying to get a qualifying mark [1.94 meters or 6-4 1/4] to make the World Championships in Beijing later this month. She is also working to get her standard to qualify for the Rio Olympic Trials next year [in Eugene, Oregon]. If she makes the Olympics, it would be her sixth. As far as we know, she would be the only person to do so in track and field. Anyway, she needs four other 18+ women to jump with her to have the mark count. So if you are that age and a USATF member, come and support Amy in her goal. You don’t even have to be a high jumper! Just 18 and a USATF member.â€
Seth continues:
Note that she will be bringing some of her 2012 Olympic gear (photo above) and you can have your pick. So if you can come, go to the link below and register. You won’t see High Jump on the schedule, just type it in the event box. We’ll start at 7 p.m. In addition, please email me your USATF #.
For everyone else, come on out and compete in the meet or just watch Amy. Though this is a USATF-sanctioned meet, you don’t have to be a USATF member to participate in any of the events (except Amy’s high jumpers above). All ages are welcome, team member or unattached. Use the same link.

As a fellow (if ex-) Texan, Amy is more than just a legend in high jump circles. There was no girls track team at her high school (Callahan, in Corpus Cristi, Texas, so she pretty much self-trained herself as a jumper. Since she’s going for her 6th Olympics, well, doesn’t that just make a red-blooded American bust some buttons.
Maybe she could interest Chaunte Lowe in giving it another go, too.

Canoeist Josefa Idem became the first woman to take part in eight Olympics, eventually reaching the final of the K1-500m event at the age of 48.

we are all pulling for her, if I were anywhere close to Texas I would be there.I’ve been afan since even before she set the h.s. record☺☺
Amy didn’t make 1.94 qualifier, Seth sez. Wasn’t told her final height.
Thou no fault of her own, how many great track and field athletes did we never get to see because network television decided we had to keep cutting back to see the ‘marketable’ Ms. Acuff on her inevitable personal journey to another 6’4″ (give or take an inch) result. The lack of comments on the multiple articles she has received on this site should tell you something.
