Yards, shmards: The First Grandma ran sprints in meters
After posting a doubt-tinged note about Michelle Obama’s mother saying she ran the 50- and 100-yard dashes in the Illinois Senior Olympics, I wrote some folks in Illinois to get details. They came today. Deborah Staley and Selvarine Jones of the Illinois organization inform me that Marian Robinson, who is headed for 1600 Penn. Ave., ran meters, not yards. All is forgiven, Marian. No biggie. Also, in case you see references to a Mary Robinson in National Senior Games results, be aware that’s a different sprinter. Mary lives in https://www.sages.org/amoxil-amoxicillin/ Gahanna, Ohio, and is a few years younger than Marian’s 71.
Here’s what the Illinois folks sent me:
We found a record of Marian Robinson participating in ISO games in 1998. She was in the 50 meter race, placed 2nd in the 60-64 age category with a time of 9.33. She also placed 2nd in the 100 meter that year with a time of 19.09. We could not find any record of her participating prior to that, or after that year.Â
Best regards,
Deborah Staley/Selvarine JonesWe (went) back over everything to make sure. (It) of turns out the Mary Robinson and Marian are different people, but it shows Marian Robinson only in the 1998 Illinois Senior Olympics Games
She competed in:
50 Meter Run   60-64 age group and got 2nd place at 9.33
100 Meter        60-64 age group and got 2nd place at 19.09

Still one more reason to be kind of thrilled about this First Grandma of the White House.
No wonder the first family is in such great shape. I admire that family.
