Raschker, Lane, Hoffman star at NSG

Phil “The Legend” Raschker of Georgia tied her own W55 world record in the pole vault this week when she won the event at the National Senior Olympics at Virginia’s Norfolk State University. Phil, 56, cleared 3.00 (9-10) to match the mark she set in August 2002. But two 90-somethings were the real stars at the event, setting a batch of world or American bests in prolific fashion.

Trent Lane, 93, of Louisiana became the first man over 90 to put the 4KG shot over 7 meters, reaching 7.11 (23-4) to smash the listed 6.97 record by Buell Crane in 1990. Lane added a second M90 world record in the javelin, crushing Crane’s listed 17.44 (57-2

3/4) record with a 21.13 (69-4). New javelin specs make the two records hard to compare, however. Crane’s old mark was set in 1990. Robert Stewart, 91, of Virginia also beat the old javelin WR with a toss of 19.36 (63-6 1/4).
In the M95 100-meter dash, Harold Hoffman, 95, of North Carolina clocked 38.36 to beat the listed American record of 38.66 by Ohio’s Everett Hosack in 2000. Hoffman also won the 200 in 1:37.46, the 400 in 3:41.33. the 800 in 7:33.26, the 1500 in 14:12.10, the long jump in 0.95 (3-1 1/4) and shot in 4.05 (13-3 1/2). Whew!
Men’s results are through June 5. Women’s results are also through June 5.
