Notice a change? Masterstrack.com migrates to new platform
At 9:37 a.m. today, this site moved from Movable Type to WordPress, a content management system and blog platform. Many of the changes are cosmetic, but my blog just became turbocharged. You’ll see. It’s the equivalent of trading in a VW for a Ferrari. A few bugs are being worked out, but I’m thrilled by my new digs and plan to roll out some great new features. (One is an improved hit counter, based at Quantcast.) I have a backlog of a dozen newsy nuggets to post, including interviews with a half-dozen stars of Saturday’s Hartshorne masters miles. That will come soon. I spent a day with my web-genius brother Al Stone in Santa Monica to accomplish this transformation. (But we still had fun, seeing “Avatar” and having brunch at Izzy’s deli.) Hope you have fun as well. Lemme know if you spot any glitches.

I thought I would test the Ferrari. Ken- thanks for all the work that goes into the site !!!
believe it or not…i’m a vw guy…my first new car was a 1972 vw superbeetle…i collect old vw’s…got a 1962 deluxe microbus…unrestored with original july 6th 1962 title with 39,700 miles…it needs to be restored. 73 vw thing…71 vw karmann ghia convertible.. 93 vw eurovan and 75 porsche 914….they say a shoemaker has holes in his soles. i’m a pro autobody guy with over forty years experience..but haven’t tackled the microbus yet. soon…very soon… anyhows, this page is streched across my screen. i can’t read it unless i mouse across . i’ve always been a creature of habit, and have really enjoyed this site…today, my ways must meet a different delivery…i’m dug in the batters box ready for the next pitch…i’ve seen high and tight…low and away….curve ball …change up…and now the pitcher looks like he’s got a piece of sandpaper taped to his glove… that ken stone…he’s a tricky one…heck…he drives a ferrari
From my perspective, it isn’t the difference between a VW and a Ferarri, but rather it’s the difference between having to remove an engine block to change the oil, versus just unscrewing something and calling it done.
Had a great time Ken, but I need to mail you the sock you left under my couch.
At this stage, I’m a bit disappointed. The format is very wide, so that I have to scroll horizontally to read each line. Second, some printing at the top seems over other words, so that it’s a bit confusing. I hope all this will all get straightened out. I really liked the old format, etc. It seemed to work great, too. Ron K.
Thanks Ron. The issue with the words at the top of the screen will be fixed when we get the new logo over to the left. This isn’t affecting all browsers, but we are getting reports about this, so we’re on it.
As for the width of the window, this is roughly the same as the old version. Are you on a laptop by any chance? Is your browser window “maximized” to fill your entire screen?
The width has definitely changed, which is fine if it is set up to be auto-sized to the resolution of the monitor. But it doesn’t appear to be. I tested on a laptop at 1024×768 (lots of scrolling required) 1280×1024 (less, but scrolling still required). Windows were maximized on both.
Yes, I have to scroll to the right to see it all as well. It’s about half again as wide as my screen.
Nice update to an already great web site. Keep up the good work, Ken. We all really appreciate it!
Those of you who are having problems with the width, I wonder if you can do me a favor and check out these other two sites that use the same template. Tell me if these sites are also horizontally challenged:

Thanks!
Al,
I went to the site you listed and they displayed fine. Masterstrack is still “horizontally challenged”.
Thad
same as Thad. Other sites fine, this one about double width
