Gault at 49 holds his own; W50 team sets 4×4 record at Millrose
Willie Gault, 49, took third in the “Super 60” exhibition at tonight’s Millrose Games. Complete results are posted here. Willie ran 60 meters in 7.07 — just off the listed American M45 indoor record of 7.02 by Stan Whitley and the pending world record of 6.97 by the Italian Mario Longo a short time ago. Athena TC won the women’s masters 4×4 in 4:20.03, and the masters men’s 4×4 went to Greater Philly TC in 3:44.79. But a masters mole informs me: “Greater Philadelphia Women’s team set an American Club record in the W50 4X400. Alison Suckling, Joan Affleck, Wendi Glassman and Cheryl Bellaire ran 4:59.41, beating Atlanta TC time of 5:02.25 set in 2008. ” Stay tuned for details.

Speedy Willie’s time age-grades to 6.30!
Here’s what Willie Gault told USATF for its news release:
“I felt good once I started running. I had a little bit of a disappointing start, but it’s my first 60 in about four years so it’s great. And it’s great to get a chance to run with these guys. Speed has helped the game of football last as long as it had. Bob Hayes Sam Graddy, James Jett and Renaldo Nehemiah, there have been lots of track athletes find success in football. There’s always been a fascination with speed. You get the opportunity to see great people perform. It’s a great, pure sport. You don’t have to rely on a QB to throw the ball or a defense to block. It’s pure.
“I enjoy track and field. It keeps me young. I train with guys that are 20 years my junior. It keeps me young, keeps me in a sport I love dearly.”
Congratulations to all the master competitors at Millrose. Both Athena T.C. and Millrose A.A. ran faster than the W40+ record set by Athena in 2009 of 2:23.73. The team of Kathleen Shook, Maryline Roux, Lorraine Jasper and, Charmaine Roberts comfortably exceeded the mark in 4:20.03, while Millrose’s Janice Reid, Stephanie Rhue, Sonya Badger and Terry Ballou ran an excellent 2:22.37.
In my previous comment, I am referring to the Millrose Games W40+ Meet Record.
I was obviously too excited by the great results! I should have said 4:23.73 for the old meet record and 4:22.37 for Millrose A.A. at yesterday’s meet.
Lagat is a class act. Our team met him in the hotel lobby b4 Millrose , got to shake his hand. He came UP TO US and just started talking to us for 5 minutes. He actually sings the national anthem b4 one of his biggest record attempts. More than most MLB/NFL guys would do ! Enough about whether he is really an American runner already !
O yea, he’s 35 now ! Ken, Some sort of masters record ??
Congrats to my GPTC teammates, 3 teams = 2 sets of medals and an American club record ! Way to represent. Ken, hope to send some pics soon.
Props to our ladies team and the new American record, respect to both sets of my team mates on our gold and bronze medals.
Congratulations to Bernard Legat on his record setting 8th Wanamaker Mile, great runner, great guy,but thanks also to my hero Eamonn Coghlan, not just for a lifetime of epic memories but for putting the exclamation point on one of the most memorable days of my life

May I point out that Willie Gault’s 7.07 at 49 is faster, age-adjusted, than Mo Greene’s WR 6.39. Gault’s run is the equivalent of a 6.30 60m!
Gault is amazing.
I am assuming that the Anthony Dorsett, Jr. who ran 7.01 is not Tony Dorsett, born in 1954? Is this his son?
I see: his son was born in ’73…
One more: I now see I was just repeating what was said earlier by Bryan. Sorry.
