Details on dorms at Hawaii masters nationals
Meet director Mark Zeug of the 2005 masters nationals in Hawaii has replied to my query about dorms and such. Having noted the very reasonable cost of $20 a night (double occupancy), I was worried about the lack of air conditioning. Mark says not to worry.
He writes:
“Rooms generally are not stifling, because Hawaii is traditionally cooled by gentle trade winds which generally blow about 300 days out of the year. These cool winds come from the northeast, and blow over the Koolau mountains and down Manoa Valley to the University. So it is usually quite comfortable. Having said that, I can tell you that when the trade winds are not blowing, it can be quite warm. You can bring a small fan if you’d like.”
He further writes:
“The dorms are maybe 300 yards from the track. Cafeteria is in the middle of the dorms. Don’t know yet how many rooms UH is going to give us — we hope to have that info this coming week. We will send out an e-mail to everyone on the list when we know more. You are number 75 on the list — but most of those reserved are for two people, so we have about 140 beds reserved so far. There are two meal packages available, and only two. If you click on the lei marked “Meals” it gives complete info.”
Mark also had question for me:
“Did you receive the mailing from USATF about the Hawaii meet? Am trying to track the mailing, which should have gone out several days ago to over 9,600 masters members of USATF. Want to be sure masters are receiving it.”
Nope, haven’t seen it yet.
