Who’s the mystery vaulter of Geezerjock fame?
Last fall, Geezerjock debuted. And a double-page spread of six photos from the USATF national masters championships in Decatur, Illinois, featured a single vaulter. The set by Chase Agnello-Dean was a nice study in technique. Only one problem: The jumper wasn’t identified.
Geezerjock editor Sean Callahan tried mightily to learn the name of the guy, who appears to be in his late 30s. No dice.
So he’s given me permission to offer up a contest. Nail down the name of the guy clearing the bar in the Geezerjock photo spread and you win . . . a Geezerjock T-shirt!
Here’s the mystery man:
And just to give you a head start, I’ll share the potential candidates. Unless he was jumping without entering, our guy is one of the following:
1 Michael Fontana M33 Aurora, IL 3.95m
1 Bryan Carrel M36 Urbana, IL 4.40m
1 Jonathan Bartos M40 Matson, OH 4.40m
2 John Hoyt M40 Seattle, WA 4.25m
3 Steve Miller M43 Wadsworth, OH 3.95m
4 Robb Johnston M40 Granger, IN 3.80m
1 Gary Hunter M48 Fort Wayne, IN 4.55m
2 Douglas Gabbert M45 Palm Coast, FL 4.10m
3 Terry Christopher M46 Minooka, IL 4.10m
4 Kenneth Drollinger M48 Covington, IN 3.65m
5 Andy Colbert M46 Oregon, IL 3.50m
Slim chance he’s over 50. I’ll bet he’s one of the first four or five.
These are the jumpers who cleared a height. I don’t list the NH guys because the Geezerjock spread shows him clearing cleanly.
First person to send me an authoritative/correct ID wins the T-shirt — plus eternal gratitude from Callahan and the folks at Geezerjock.

I can tell you a few people that it is not..
Michael Fontana – Too stocky to be Mike
Bryan Carrel – Not hairy enough to be the Wookie
John Hoyt – I think that should be Jack Hoyt, and he’s taller and
lankier than the guy pictured
It’s possible the bar is falling off in that picture. The bar is a
lot lower than the top of the pole, so either he’s not a very good
vaulter, came in at a really low height, or knocked the bar off.
Or maybe the photo is just at a weird angle 🙂
