World records that time won’t forget

Who knows why USATF does what it does? A recent press release mentions an Anselm Lebourne world record but neglects to mention another world record at the same meet and in the same event. Hooookay. A masters runner (but not Pete Tayl;or, as I previously thought) brought this meet results site to my attention.

The Web site of the March 6, 2005, meet at the New York Armory track said two world indoor records were set — in the M55 and M60 1500:
Master’s Men (55-59): Alston Brown, World Record, CPTC, 4:23.96
Master’s Men (60-64): Sid Howard, World Record, CPTC; 4:56.93

(World Masters Athletics lists this record for the indoor 1500:
M 55 4:27.01 John Potts GBR 55 2-14-00
But WMA also sez:
M 60 4:37.80 Maurice Morrrell GBR 61 3-20-94 Glasgow)
And anuther thing: Sid Howard is not in the M60 age group. He’s about 66 now, since USATF lists this American indoor M65 record:
65-69 4:45.36 Sidney Howard NJ (65) New York, NY 3/6/04
So, whatever.
Also: The results list only one runner in the M45 1500:
Randall White. Running Company; 4:33.82
No mention of a 4:02.62 by Anselm Lebourne
OK, so what gives?
I’m looking into it.
Update for March 10:
Well, if I could read the fine print, I would have figured this out earlier. But the Armory results I referenced in yesterday’s blog post were from a YEAR ago. That’s why Anselm’s 1500 record wasn’t mentioned. I’m told that results from this past weekend’s meet haven’t been posted online yet. My apologies for all the confusion, especially to USATF which took my wrath.

    Ken,
I think you are referencing last years results for MAC Championships. Please double check your dates.
    Thanks

Ken…you have the dates wrong..that was the 2004 MAC meet…BUT any Master athlete can tell you (who has any experience in this matter) its MUCH harder to get “official” recognition for a record than to actually set one..I can provide numerous examples of this. Its just another way Masters Athletics does NOT serve the athletes who are in fact its memebership…ask around about this… its a real shame..
