Record application promised for Gault’s 10.73

Good news on the record front. Occidental track coach Troy Engle, who helped run the meet at Oxy where Willie Gault presumably set an American M40 best in the 100, writes me: “I was not aware of the record – thanks for bringing it to my attention! I have printed the paperwork and will get on it.”

Now it’ll be interesting to see if Aaron Thigpen also will apply for record consideration. Aaron, who turned 40 in September 2004, ran the 100 in 10.79 at the Modesto Relays the same day.
That’s also under Eddie Hart’s listed AR of 10.87.
Aaron, however, may be a little more clued in on the record drill.
Two years ago, when he ran 10.34 at Modesto at age 38, he wrote me a note saying he was the claimant to the M35 American record at 100.
So who’s next under 11 post-40?
