Preview of coming attractions: Early WAVA meet results

A long time ago, in a country not so far away, middle-aged and older ladies and gents gathered for the first World Masters Track and Field Championships. The meet was held Aug. 11-17, 1975, in Toronto, Canada. And thanks to Canadian marathon great Ed Whitlock (and our respective postal services), I have in my hot little hands the results book of that inaugural world meet.

Ed responded to my plea for results from early (and all) WAVA and WMA world championships. Along with the 1975 results booklet, a compact affair similar in size to Pete Mundle’s Masters Age Records, Ed sent results from the 1977 WAVA world meet in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the results from the 1979 WAVA world meet in Hannover, Germany.
Soon I will scan these booklets — plus some amazing photos that came in them — and post them online for posterity.
Ed also sent results booklets for 1995 (Buffalo), 1997 (South Africa) and 2001 (Brisbane). But the pre-Internet results are the Holy Grail of masters statnuts.
I’m still looking for someone to share results booklets from 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1993.
