Masters all-star hurdle race in the works for Mt. SAC Relays
Richard Holmes, a world-class M40 short hurdler in Southern California, is working with Mt. SAC Relays honcho Brian Yokoyama to offer an invitational masters 110 hurdles race (39-inch barriers, I assume) at the Relays this coming April in Walnut, California. Richard is the point man — meaning he picks the nine-man field. So if you’re interested, write him directly. His hope is to bring together the best M40 and M45 hurdlers in the country for a showdown at Mt. SAC, probably Saturday, April 18. (No Sunday meet this year.) Richard writes: “I’ve talked to Don Drummond and sent a message to Rod Jett, but it would be great to have Dave Ashford, Henry Andrade, Willie Gault and Karl Smith in the race, too. Given the state of the economy, if we plan ahead, plane tickets can be bought at a great price.” Great idea, Richard. Would be nice to collar Dan O’Brien and Roger Kingdom, too, if their coaching schedules permit.

I am also in for the shuttle hurdles. If they do not let us run over 29 inches, let;s tun with the open over 42 inches. I remember running Mt.Sac as a high schooler(Diamond Bar High School) and it is such a great track environment. The weather is always great and the track surface is fast.
Willie Gault and Roger Kingdom added to the field would solidify the hurdle race of the year. They could run us on Sunday with this kind of field. Wishful Thinking!!!!!

Would love to see this event, but I will be elsewhere. This must be a fast track, as this is where Aaron Thigpen broke the M40 American record in the 100 in 2007 (Aaron ran 10.60 FAT with a legal wind).
Looks like the M40 110 hurdles mark (13.73, David Ashford) is safe — doggone it, that’s a fast mark. When I tell people that’s the masters mark in the 110h their reaction is: “What is this, college track?”, or something similar. The M45 mark of 14.79 (Tom Gilliard back in 1995) has to be broken at this meet.
I don’t think they do the open shuttle hurdles at Mt SAC. However I do believe that they do the high school shuttle hurdles there. Maybe we could run with them over the 39’s. Also Mr. Taylor records are made to be broken, not making any predictions but you never know…. 🙂
