Master plan for USATF Masters? Check back in four years

Poor Trigger. I’m about to beat him again. The Masters section of the USATF Web site is a snooze, a shame and sickly out of date, especially in comparison to the USATF Youth Athletics area. And even if a dead horse has to be abused, I’ll ride this hobby horse until someone takes notice and action.

As of today, the USATF Masters meeting minutes page contains data through June 2002. By comparison, the comparable Youth Athletics minutes page has information as recent as March 2005.
Youth Athletics has posted minutes of its 2004 national meeting.
The latest national meeting minutes for masters? That would be from 2001.
And then we have some minor gripes:
The USATF Masters Chair reports end at June 2005. What happened to Chairman George Mathews’ reports for July, August, September and October?
Yes, he did write ’em.
His July 2005 report, as published in National Masters News, is headlined “Write On! Responses” His August report is titled “More on Diversity Training.” And his September report is under the heading “Aloha and Mahalo.” No NMN report in the October issue. (Everyone deserves a vacation, I guess.)
But George made a promise in his September column that he didn’t keep.
His Page 5 “Track & Field Report” in the September issue concludes:
“Also on Wednesday before the (Hawaii nationals) meet, the Executive Committee worked from 9 to 5, in a conference room with no windows, on the second part of the USATF Masters Track & Field Strategic Plan Even though he wasn’t able to attend, Todd Taylor gave us the template to nearly complete the task.
“All participants worked really hard on a plan that I believe everyone will appreciate. We will have the latest update in the next issue of National Masters News.”
Uh, George. We’d appreciate learning more about the plan. If not in National Masters News, then at least in your own section of USATF’s Web site.

Golly Ken..what are you talking about??? Our leader Chairman Matthews is working on “DIVERSITY”..what more do you want????? Do you actually think that PARTICIPATION and GROWTH are important to Masters Track and Field????? Lets just keep attending National Championships with LESS participation and PAY the SURCHARGE with a big happy smile…….everything is wonderful Ken wake up!!!!! As for USATF they do little or nothing for us but take our money….they too have failed Masters Track..well..perhaps its not really failure…. lets face it they just dont give a dam… and they show it accordingly.
