Praise for Pashkin and updated USA records online
Sandy Pashkin of Eugene, Oregon, is taking her gig seriously. As the new records czar for USATF Masters, she’s updating the American masters records page with gusto. The latest incarnation was amended Oct. 21. That should be it for the year (unless some marks emerge from last week’s Hawaii Senior Olympics). A nice touch is listing pending records with a light-green background. A nice addition: M35 records.
In December 2000, Sandy won a USATF President’s Award, and her citation read:
“Sandy Pashkin (Metropolitan) An active athlete since 1957, Sandy Pashkin
has served track and field in many ways. Pashkin became an official in
1961, the same year that she became the American record holder in the 880.
A national Masters champion and record holder in several events, she was
also the meet director for the 1986 National Masters Outdoor
Championships, and the co-meet director for the 2000 National Scholastic
Indoor Championships. Pashkin has also served as a manager for a national
junior team, and a USA Masters team at the WAVA Championships. She is the
current Chair of the Health and Physical Education Department and Athletic Director for Hunter College Campus Schools in New York City.”
I’ve been critical of her in the past, especially when it comes to her tone-deaf defense of certain USATF masters rules, but I give her credit (as an insider’s insider) who knows where the bodies are buried and gets hard work done. She also knows how to fess up to mistakes — a rare trait.
Now if we can only tweak those records a bit more to get some true age-group bests (like the M40 high jump) listed that aren’t yet recognized.

I have yet to see a spot for 80/84 age group in U S records for the latest superweight category
